News
Autumn typhoon
Dear friends & sponsors
not a long time ago we've returned with Veny from Tanzania and we have some fresh news regarding some of our students. It's a bit longer story but we hope to give You a better picture and better "IN" feeling ;)
We managed to meet Jackelin, Rose and of course with Kazu (with Lydia). Unfortunately Gregory had to stay in Dar es Salam. There he is intensively looking for a job after finishing his bachelor studies. We got an info in advance from Agness and August that due to their school and non-school activities they will not make to Moshi on time. We did not manage to get in touch with Godfrey. According to Emma there are two possible reasons - either he is not allowed to use his mobile at school or it could also happened that he had to sell his own mobile and was using his friends mobile in case of need for making a call.
Jackelin is a nice girl and as we already expected she is more comfortable with technical drawings, mechanics and elastics comparing to spontaneous speeches and social meetings. We talked about school, friends, teachers and how is going at home ... Jackelin finished her first year at University in July and the next semester starts at the end of October. She managed to overcome the big leap between A-level and University without bigger issue. She's already caught up with majority of the missing A-level knowledge and working on the rest. According to her own words the first year results could be better but they are satisfactory.
She told us that she thought Simon was supposed to be an older person. And most probably the discovered reality convinced her to start asking more. We explained her the the aim and meaning of KiT and it looks like she is now much comfortable in communication with us and that the whole thing makes now more sense to her.
We gave her 400.000 TZS at the time of our visit. Later we will have to discuss what to do with her in the future.
Very likable and cute Rose got similar experiences comparing to Jacky. She's just finished her first year University studies as well. She was thankful for being added to WhatApp group with other KiT students and she was asking about Jackelin. Most probably because because they have the most in common and she'd like to stay in touch with her. She is waiting for the whole year result as well.
Rose was very pleased with computer provided by KiT. Similarly to other students she was mentioning that it quite important to be able to use computer. To study without the computer in Tanzania proved to be very difficult.
Rose was provided with one million TZS for the first semester of the second school year. The money should be deposited on the school bank account and receive a confirmation receipt.
Kazungu is preparing for extended studies starting October this year for becoming a midwife. Expected costs and effort are not known yet. Currently she is working on private maternity clinic were she is gaining experiences. The salary is only symbolic. It's quite difficult for her regarding the future job and studies. The government should take care about it after finishing studies but so far there is no progress. But once she finishes with the government studies she is also loosing this advantage of guaranteed job. Nevertheless Kazu is decided to keep studying and becoming the midwife with degree. That will provide her with possibility not to have a surveillance during the birth giving.
Besides that we have now a prove about the cheaper way of getting the money into the Tanzania - it's cheaper to get the money from the ATM in TZA then to send the money via Western Union. But the bigger is the amount of money being withdrawn the smaller the difference is. We will discuss it with Rum and our accountants what would be the difficulties of moving the money to one of our personal accounts and then let Emma to withdraw the money directly in Tanzania. We left the credit card with Emma. At the time of writing it looks to us similar to our current process cause this way or the other we need to get the confirmation receipt for money sent to Tanzania and the money were deposited to particular school. For sure we will discuss it.
We have also left in Tanzania 200.000 TZS and one computer for Godfrey. We hope that he will get in touch with Emma or with us soon.
And last but not least - last week we've received great news from Agness and August. They both managed the final exams and after the three year studies they are bachelors now!!! Most probably they will take some break now and then will decide where to continue. They promised to let us know soon.
Following Gregory who finished his studies at the beginning of summer these are our another graduates what makes us quite happy :)
Thanks a lot to all who keeps supporting talented students and helping them and their dreams to come true!
